Greetings to you one and all.
Well, what a summer! The weather was really good, with sun every day but as usual it did not please everyone; the lawns suffered, the trains were affected and next door’s cat spent an inordinate amount of time living in my garden borders - probably to keep cool (note to self, must water borders more often). Despite the cat, I like the warm days but they now seem to have ended and we drift into autumn and of course back to our Masonic meetings. I look forward to meeting with you around Mark Masons’ Hall as we return, refreshed and enthusiastic about our wonderful Order.
Our Councils are all happy and healthy and I encourage everyone to join in the inter Council visiting which is becoming a regular feature of District life. Of course, anyone can join me and the other District Officers on our Official visits or when I visit other District meetings – they are interesting as well as being good fun. At a recent conference at MMH I discovered that the AMD is the most successful Order, amongst all those managed from there, for growth – it did not surprise me.
Our social events have been running for a few years now and are a firmly embedded date for the diary; they are always well supported with maximum numbers on each occasion. We shall be holding one in the autumn again and next spring; full details will be circulated and of course can be found on the website.
The Allied Masonic Degrees Grand Meeting is to be held in London on 23rd October. Please join with me and support this meeting; it is in London again and it would be nice to see a good turn-out from London to support our members who have been awarded, or promoted in, Grand Rank. It is also a good opportunity to see and meet with our Grand Master – MW Bro Tom Jackson.
But, as ever, the big event for us is our District Meeting, which is to be held at MMH on Saturday 17th November 2018. We have improved our attendance numbers every year so far and last year was an excellent event. It is very satisfying when we have good numbers and adds to the atmosphere. I particularly encourage new members to attend; you will be most welcome and will be especially received during the meeting.
